A few thoughts I wanted to journal for Caitlyn regarding the Olympics. This is our family journal/scrapbook and I want her to have this when she is older. So read if you wish or skip;)
As we watched the opening ceremonies of the Olympics in China with our very own Chinese Treasure in our lap; we sat with our hearts filled with love, respect and excitement for China. Many feelings filled our hearts as we watched Caitlyn watch each segment that came on. When we first began to adopt, as we learned about China; though we did find it to be a beautiful country, we never expected to feel the love we have now. Yet another common bond we fellow adopters seem to have; as the Olympics have arrived, I see on blog after blog people sharing this common bond of excitement and love for the Chinese. People outside the adoption circle seem to look at us oddly and not understand. Some of us don't quite understand. Many of us did not have any idea we were going to feel this way. But this country is a piece of our children. Are they Americans now? Yes, but no matter what this is their heritage, this is a piece of who they are; their roots are there and as we watch the Olympics taking place in their birth country we can't help but be consumed with a love for the people there. This country allowed us the honor of parenting Caitlyn and for that we are FOREVER grateful.
A few pics from the zoo last week.

My sweet Chloe looks quite grown up in these pics. I don't know if I like them:)

I like you merry go round wady. tank you letting me ride.

I always love how determined Caitlyn is to get more fish food after she has already spent her quarter.

We were in awe as we watched the ornate production of the opening ceremonies too. It is such a hard thing to put into words; this feeling/ connection we have with such a special country... She really does look very grown up and beautiful as always!

I totally understand how you feel about China. That country gave you your beautiful daughter.
Love the zoo pics.

Your children are quite beautiful!
I only saw bits and pieces of the opening ceremonies, but what I did see looked amazing! I've heard or read (can't remember) that China is really tightening the rules on adoption laws---any truth to that? I think specifically I heard China would not allow overweight Americans to adopt....

I cheered in 2004 for the Chinese girls in gymnastics and this year Lottie and I are doing the same together! James says we are unpatriotic;)
I know what you mean, I have a special place in my heart for
China but for some reason it is different for South Korea....I don't know why? Maybe the wait was only nine weeks for Emma and I didn't have time to attach to her country??? I don't know.
I love the pictures Connie and yes, Chloe unfortunately, is looking more and more like a young lady. Big sigh.

I love what you wrote. I was in tears watching the opening ceremonies. I looked at every face and wondered if that person could be related to Kate. Kate said,..."beautiful China, Mommy" as she danced around. I totally get what you are saying and I have not quite figured out how to say it yet on my log.
Hugs,
Kim

Sorry it has been a while since visiting as I have been somewhat busy with work etc but thought I would drop by... I wanted to watch the opening so bad but had to work and got to watch the last half but a small part of me didn't want to watch it... I think 'China' (regardless of what they do and don't do), they will always be a part of our hearts - regardless... take care

Connie, what a wonderful post. When we left China we felt like we left part of our heart there. We will be forever thankful to China for giving us our beautiful daughter. Hannah get's so excited seeing anything about China. She always says, "That's my China!" We're just as proud as she is.

Beautiful post, Connie! I agree wholeheartedly. I just love these pictures of your treasures. I particularly love the sweet faces you captured on Jacob. I'm not sure if he could be any more handsome. Do you believe in prearranged marriage? LOL!

I agree with you about their kids' heritage; it is precious to see these kids from another culture, now Americans, honor where they came from!
Love the zoo pics, you always know how to capture them!

OH Connie...what a precious post....I too love the Olympics...as China is very near to my heart as well...my Chelsi has DVR'ed the opening ceremonies and the games thus far...she and her daddy stayed up until 3am watching them Saturday night! :)
Her prized "Pray for China" bracelet arrived in the mail on Saturday...just in the nick of time for her to wear it and remember the dear Chinese people in our prayers!
I love your journal entry for sweet Caitlyn....her birth country is very dear to your heart....and she will surely appreciate your precious words written for her as she is older!
Thank you for my candle...it came today...and it smells yummy!
You are precious Connie...and I am so blessed to call you "friend"!
Love and Hugs!!!

We were in awe watching the opening ceremonies too. China is a huge part of us knowing that is where our babies come from. We couldn't wait to get our Chinese take out and sit and watch. The gymnasts have been something we have loved watching too.
Love the zoo pics!
