praise filled Tuesday

These pics are just random from the past couple of weeks. I have shared this pic of Jacob before but I wanted to share it again as I blog some things about him. Jacob learned to swing all by himself this weekend! For Jacob, this is huge! When we traveled to Guatemala to finalize our adoption of Jacob, he was 8 months old. He was delayed in several areas. he clearly had been very neglected. He was very behind in his speech until around 4 yrs old. Now his vocabulary is amazing. We received some advice that has always been very helpful. When we had him tested to see where he placed in his development, and I explained that I knew he had not had formula until he was placed in our arms; that they had given him powdered milk, and not given him love stimulation etc, she said lets pretend he was born when you brought him home.
At night for prayer time Jacob always says thank you Lord, that my brain, works right. God is answering that prayer every day. Jacob is doing great at reading and math. Could he go to school and sit at a desk everyday and make it in a classroom following rules? I will be honest and say no, his behavior has not matured enough for that; and social situations are what we need to begin to pray about now and use our faith to receive God's grace and help; we have prayed about things one step at a time; and this is next on the list; but homeschooling is wonderful for him. To sit in mom's lap and read together, to sit with each other and take math step by step and it all click for him, to see him able to read well beyond that of a first grader in public school gives me such joy. To see him ace his math everyday is such victory. God is answering Jacob's prayers and mine and we are so thankful. My handsome, brown-eyed, joy filled, peace filled, Guatemalan Prince.

Connie,
First...I am so pleased that Jacon's development is going seo well!!! That is wonderful!!!! Praise god!!!!
Next,
Thank you for the great ideas and tips on delaing with the witching hour. I so appreciate the support of other Moms who are going through these issues. I do have a carrier for Kate and I should use it more. She is so heavy (24 lbs) and I am small (105 lbs) so it is hard to wear her too long even though it is a really good carrier.
I will try ti more during the witching hour though:)
Hugs,
Kim

Connie,
What a beautiful post about Jacob. It especially touched my heart because we have a similar situation with my older son. He had a traumatic and premature birth that has left him with developmental and learning challenges. He is now 14 years old and has far surpassed what the doctors had told us to expect. The joy in seeing our children accomplish new things is only magnified 100 times when you know just how much harder they had to work for it. I am so glad to see how well Jacob is doing with your love and dedication. You are an amazing mom and he is most absolutely an incredible and handsome boy!

I love hearing about Jacob. His story reminds me of our Emma Jane, she is very delayed in so many areas. We haven't had her evaluated yet but maybe this spring. I don't really see her in a classroom setting either but yet she is only 2...we'll see. Always love your posts!

Loved to read about Jacob--we will think about him lots. He is so precious. Really just want to cuddle him up. Love the advice to think as being born when he came home--that's a neat way to think. That is great that he is swinging by himself--that's not an easy task:)

Your blog is one of my very favorites!
Thanks for sharing about jacob! We are considering adopting an older child (age 3-5). Actually my husband is still deciding, I am already there! Praise God for His bringing you and Jacob together!

Aw, praise the Lord for little boys! They bring us to our knees, don't they? Jacob is such a doll. What a blessing, I just love seeing the pictures of him and Chloe together, too. Sweet brother and sister!
