Saturday

We went to a birthday gathering for a friend today and I was able to snap a few pics of Caitlyn out and enjoying herself.

Also
today there was a little girl at the party a bit older than Chloe that she was playing with. While I was busy with Caitlyn apparently this little girl asked Chloe why did she look different than her mommy? Why was her skin brown?? My sweet girl handled it very well and I am SO glad we have the little adoption talks regularly, reading a Mother for Choco etc... and so glad we call her our Guatemalan Princess continually telling her how beautiful her brown skin and dark hair is. We constantly talk about how God wanted to have a family with all colors of skin and hair and how pretty He thinks she is, since He is her creator.
Chloe explained to this little girl that she was "dopted" That I came to get her when she was a baby in Guatemala. The little girl then got really inquisitive and asked about Chloe's other mother??? I came in on the end of the conversation and Chloe replied before I could even answer "Oh, she means my foster mother" phew.... What a conversation... I just want to always keep my sweeties prepared for these things. I never want them to feel anything but secure in who they are and where they were born and how they came to their forever family. I am so sorry they have to run into occasions such as this, but so proud of my girl for handling it so well at 6 yrs old.

I love these babies to the moon and back and am so thankful for God's plan of adoption...

  • It sounds like Chloe handled the question so well - especially for six!! I just spent the afternoon with my nephews and niece, and of course my girls. I cannot tell you how many times I thank God for having adoption as His plan for us. We are so blessed to have these kids. So, so blessed.

Caitlyn is such a beautiful little model. Your photography is amazing. I love her orange outfit, too.

  • Chloe handler herself beautifully. I worry about my Livi answering questions because Livi is speech delayed. I get upset just thinking about someone questioning her and Livi not being able to truly respond. I love the pictures on the swing. They are so adorable!!!!

  • Wow what a big girl. Way to go Chloe and you can tell that all your talks have helped sweet Chloe know exactly how her family all fits together. I too worry about my kids being hurt by others words and want to prepare them as much as I can. You just never know what the question will be or how they will ask it. Caitlyn looks beautiful as always. She's such a cutie.

  • Great job Chloe and great job Mommy for making your girl feel so happy and secure.

Unfortunately these types of conversations come up all the time and I think you are right, if we let our little ones know that God had a plan for them, then it gives them such security to handle these things.

    Love the pictures of Caitlyn!

  • You must be so proud of Chloe. It's so hard...we all just do the best we can and hope whe that inevitable moment comes, that our children are comfrotable and prepared. Good job.

I love these pictures....I seriously was just talking to a friend yesterday about trying to find a old fashioned board swing just like this for pictures and we decided that her carpenter husband could build us one!!!

Finally...how do you get your pictures to this large size on your blog?? Even when I check large size, mine are not that big!

Thanks for stopping by my blog...I will be back to visit you...your photography is inspiring!!!

  • Connie,

I am so inspired by how you've prepared your children for the tough questions. I know I won't have all the answers to give Lindy but it brings me comfort knowing you and others have crossed the bridge and I can ask for help...

Way to go Chloe for answering with dignity and grace.

    Love,
    Lisa

  • All of us fret about these moments in time. We can only hope that we've prepared our children enough to handle the questions with self-confidence, truth and love. Chloe seems like an eloquent little gal.

  • I am finally home and able to catch up with everyone. THanks for the comments and prayers while I was gone. I am SO glad to be home (with ac and internet!)

I love that picture of Caitlyn with the shutters. That is awesome.

How wonderful that Chloe handled those questions by herself. It is awesome that you have prepared her for them.

  • Beautiful pictures... I am so thankful that your love and conversations had prepared her as much as possible for this conversation... what a blessing that she got through it and everything is ok... As much as we want to we cannot protect our babies from all THOSE questions...
Jeremy got home from Peru on Tues. over 35 people gave their hearts and lives to Jesus! And they ministered to several churches andtheir fellowships as well...
Thank You Jesus for an incredible harvest on the mission trip.
    Love you friend,

  • Oh My Connie! Chloe handled that so well ! It is hard to believe she is only six!

Caitlyn is simply adorable! I love her adorable outfit.

It is nice to see another blended family. God does provide us with beautiful healthy children thorough adoption. I am so proud to be a mommy of my precious Gabby.

  • What a big girl she was handling that situation ... I do have a question ... I am not sure if it is because Emily/Maggie seem so close in age, but daily people ask me in front of them, "Are they real sisters." ... I always say yes, but Emily is starting to pick up on it ... What should I do?

By Blogger Gwen Oatsvall , at September 7, 2008 at 10:33 PM

  • Hooray for Chloe! She sure did handle that well! You are right...we have to keep those lines of communication on going so they are prepared for the inevitable questions...thanks for sharing this!

  • Wow, I don't think I could have handle the question as well as Chloe. You have to be so very proud!

  • Oh Amen Connie! I don't know where we would all be without His adoption plan - first for us!

I so adore your children and am touched by their precious wisdom!

Lots of hugs and love to you!

  • So glad Chloe handled the question so well. We have those talks regularly and I am so glad we do because she has been confronted about looking different than me. I pray that all of our girls will be so strong and confident in who they are and WHO they belong to..and that is our precious Heavenly Father.
These pics are gorgeous. They are so beautiful!!!

  • Connie, could you dress your girls any cuter...I think not!! Caitlyn looks simply like a breath of fresh air.

As for beautiful Chloe, it sounds as though you have prepared her well for these moments in life. I am taking a lesson from you and really thinking about how we are preparing our girls for the inevitable. God has so richly blessed our family - I see the differences and embrace them, but it has nothing to do with appearances and everything to do with the people they are becoming...a mother's love. Thank you for presenting such a tough subject with grace, love and the depth of our Father's devotion, beautiful in every way.

    Love,

  • What a smart cookie Chloe is! I am dreading kids asking those type of questions and making comments as Gracie grows older. I only hope we are preparing her fully to answer in security too. What an awesome shot of Caitlin with the flower in front of her nose! Perfection!

  • I love your new look! Is that beautiful swing in your yard? It is gorgeous (as is the princess on it!!) What an amazing conversation - we just bought A Mother for Choco at our last parent training meeting this weekend and we got Lamb-A-Roo today, both great books for adoption talks!!

  • out of the mouths of babes. chloe is wise beyond her years because she has a loving, caring, wise mother and father. can't blame the curious, uninformed child for asking. i would pray that all children could express their curiosity and all receiving children could be secure and knowledgable enough to respond like chloe. wonderful story.

  • Chloe is so mature and so sweet. I am glad she didn't feel uncomfortable but just handled it like a pro. Thankfully my girls have not had this happen yet directly to them but it has happened infront of them to me. I hope someday they will be able to answer with security and confidence like Chloe. Of course my Livi may answer "do you mean my Ayi, or my tummy momma?" Ayla may answer "Oh Ahmoo?" :o)

By Blogger 2China4Ayla, at September 9, 2008 at 7:33 AM

  • Connie, Chloe did such a good job with the questions. With as much love and esteem as you are pouring into your children I cannot imagine them ever having difficulty with being adopted. I love all of your pic's.....especiall the black & white of Chloe in the swing!! Absolutely breath taking. You and your children are so very blessed!

  • No doubt you did a good job and Chloe felt confident in her awesome answer. Good job to both of you! It can be such a touchy subject for children and she handled it well.

  • I do not have that book...I need to check into that. I'm not sure I've ever seen it...
Chloe is wise beyond her years, truly. She has such a mature little heart, I can tell that from just the few times we've been around yall at the zoo. I know these questions are inevitable and I pray I can prepare my babies as well as you have, Connie!
    Miss you still! ;)
